/their closets/their caskets/ - Group Exhibition - Free

  • Transwerke Sam Hancock Street Johannesburg, GP, 2017 South Africa (map)

everything in; out presents /their closets/their caskets/ in collaboration with Constitutional Hill’s Creative Uprising Hub

a group exhibition comprised of works by LGBTQIA+ image makers that investigates the ‘mourning’ faced when coming into oneness with queerness: the possible loss of an idealised life, the possible loss of family members, the possible loss of biological family planning, as well as the definite overall loss of privilege and safety associated with heteronormative normalcy. Often, queer acceptance is elevated from the lens of colourful elation and relief, but often the experience is also paired with forfeiture. The image makers will place their works in closets, adorned with photos and features in relation to their personal explorations.
